Ath-lying

Don’t let this outfit fool you, I didn’t work out all weekend.

But I did spend a bunch of time on the water with this hunk!

It wasn’t that I was super unhealthy this weekend but it just wasn’t a priority. I’m making a pledge to y’all right now that I’m going to work out 3 times this week and eat healthy all week! Maybe I’ll actually put this outfit to work this week ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Yoga pants: Nordstrom – $28-$55

Tank top: Under Armour – $30 (black & grey)

Sweater: Nordstrom – $45 (currently out of stock)

Anyone else want to try to be healthy with me this week??

Fancy Pants Family Dinner

Any one of my friends will attest to the fact that I love anything fancy. However, I don’t always have a “fancy” budget. I love that Echo at the King and Prince Resort is able to provide fancy atmosphere and fancy food for only a semi-fancy price.

My parents, boyfriend, and I ended my parents visit with a nice dinner at this wonderful restaurant. I love the ambiance of this restaurant in the evening as you watch the sunset fall into the ocean out the giant windows overlooking the beach and pool area. Also, they often have bands playing live music in the bar area where couples often dance.

On to the important part, the food! As an appetizer we all shared some delicious mussels in white wine sauce with crusty bread. This is one of my favorite appetizers and it lived up to my expectations while involving a spin on the original with saffron in the sauce. As you can see below, we LOVED them. (Also, we dug into them so fast I didn’t get a picture of their beautiful presentation haha).

Next up was our fabulous entrees. I chose the Coastal Catch with Striped Bass and it was AMAZING. I loved the tender, flavorful fish and mashed potatoes. Look at all the beautiful food that we ordered!!

It was altogether a wonderful evening and I can’t wait to go back to enjoy the food and the view!

Hat + Love

I’ve never been a hat person. I always thought they smooshed my head funny or that they made my hair look weird. However, hats are a HUGE fall trend and ya gurl loves a trend.

As I was perusing through Target with my parents this weekend, I spotted this beauty across the aisle and I knew that I had to try her on. From that moment on, I barely took her off of my head. And I’m not too proud to say that whenever I saw my reflection, I stopped at stared at our combined beauty!

Her very first outing was to visit JT at work with my folks where he could give us a tour of the boats that he drives for work in the Coast Guard. I’m so proud of the things that he does and it was so fun to see him in his element being a boss.

If you can’t find this beauty here are some similar hats:

#webrunchhard

I’m going to admit something to you, lovelies. My parents came to visit me this weekend and the only things I planned was where we would eat ๐Ÿ™ˆ. Ya gurl likes to eat, what can I say??

One of the big things on my list for my parents visit was The Farmer and The Larder. I’ve been wanting to visit this place since I moved to Brunswick. I’ve heard great things about the food and I was really excited about taking my parents here.

While the menu is small, it all looked AMAZING. I ordered the Steak and Eggs but also got a couple bites of my mom’s French toast with jam. Both were so so so delicious!! I also loved the community atmosphere that the family style tables created. I can’t wait to go back and take JT with me!

Shoes: Target – $25

College Football Fever

I’m so happy that college football is back!! I graduated from Auburn University 3 years ago, being there are some of my favorite memories and cheering on the Tigers takes me back to those times. I’m not so great at the football strategy but I’m a GREAT cheerleader haha.

What makes this weekend even better is that my folks came to visit me this weekend! Living on the other side of the country from them makes me cherish my time with them even more. Doesn’t hurt that my Dad talks me through the strategy and mom cheers with me haha.

(Disclaimer: this was taken before the game and Dad hadn’t changed into his shirt – we do not support any red teams (especially Bama ๐Ÿคฎ))

I love this jersey, it’s about 5 years old and it was a bit expensive but it has been totally worth it. My secret is that this is actually a Youth XL! Buying a youth size will save you $15-25 and it’s basically the same size (but a little wider than an adult small).

What school do y’all root for??

A couple more Charleston outfits!

This weekend was a scorcher! Being cool was the name of the game so I chose some outfits that would hopefully keep me cool while touring around.

Brunching with bae and browsing the Battery! Super cute casual outfit before I put my hair in a full messy bun because it was so hot!!

Shirt: SheIn

Shorts: Hope’s

Shoes: Targรฉt

Backpack: Targรฉt

I wanted to be dressy but not too dressy for a night out on the town so I dressed my favorite skirt down with flats and a striped tee for a cute monochromatic look!

Tee: Target

Skirt: Forever 21 (not the exact one but another super cute option)

Shoes: Nordstrom Rack (I love these flats and they are 43% off of what I paid for them!!)

10 Travel tips by yours truly

Hey lovelies!

I don’t know about y’all but I LOVE to travel. I love eating at new restaurants and seeing new things and having new experiences. However, I despise is packing. Literally, I still have not completely unpacked from my girls trip to NYC THREE WEEKS AGO. I am trying to be more diligent about unpacking but it seems futile when I feel like I’m going somewhere every other weekend!

Keeping all of this in mind, I have collected some of my top travel and packing tips.

1. Always make room in your suitcase to pack the cat ๐Ÿ˜ป

Just kidding! This isn’t a tip as much as a shameless excuse to show y’all this adorable picture of my fur-baby. She loves to sit in my suitcase while I pack haha.

2. GET A SUITCASE WITH FOUR WHEELS!!!

It is astounding to me how smart humans can be about some things and how completely stupid we can be about others. Case and point, why did it take us so long to figure out that 4 wheels were FAR superior to 2?!? Dramatics aside, 4 wheeled suitcases were a game changer for me and how I travel between modes of transportation.

3. Don’t pack a bag you can’t carry.

Look, I love having a new outfit to change into every 6 hours while on vacation as much as the next girl. However, no one wants to be that person threatening other passengers lives as they try to hoist their carryon into the over head compartment. No one likes that person; don’t be that person.

4. If you can help it, don’t check a bag.

From a financial standpoint, if you don’t have the secret password or credit card for the airline its going to cost you $25-50. Also, it’s another thing you absolutely should be able to carry if you had to (or lift at the very least). The more baggage you have, the less mobile you can be to go adventuring right off the airplane (or bus or train or car). If you must check a bag, make sure you can live without it for a day or two in case it gets lost.

5. Don’t pack uni-taskers if you can help it.

Uni-tasker is not my word. I stole it from Alton Brown who used it to describe kitchen tool that had only one purpose. When packing, think about it as the fancy bralette that you need to go with this one top or the shorts that only look good with one top. I don’t subscribe to the capsule wardrobe idea but I think being able to mix and match a few items together and get several different outfits is key to making points 3 & 4 possible.

6. Pack workout clothes

I’m not saying you need to go to a spin class or anything while you are on vacation. What I am saying is that there are many views in the world that you need to break a sweat to really appreciate.

7. TSA Pre-check

If you’re going to be doing a lot of air travel this can be such a time saver. $85 for a 5 year membership means that you don’t have to remove anything from your bags and you don’t have to remove you jacket or shoes. I don’t know how it took me so long to figure this out but I think it is so worth it.

8. Understand the weather of your destination

It seems like such a simple thing but understanding the components of the weather you’re going to be living in while on your trip should influence how you pack. I mean this in For example: 80 degrees in Phoenix can feel ridiculously different than 80 degrees in New Orleans because of the humidity or lack thereof. Knowing this can really change your enjoyment of your outfits (or let you know that you’ll want a change of clothes from day to night because you’ll have sweated through your clothes haha).

9. Fold jeans, roll shirts

You’d be surprised how much space you can save if you tightly roll your shirts. However, I think a tried and true fold is best for jeans be case of their thickness.

10. Don’t experience your destination through the lens of your camera

I am obviously a proponent of taking pictures to commemorate experiences. However, while exploring a new place or while on trips I try to make sure that I am “present” and not watching things happen around me by watching my phone as I try to capture a picture or video. If your going to be somewhere, BE THERE.

So, there you have it. Ten of the best travel tips known to humankind! Alright, that is probably a stretch but I do believe them all to be true and useful.

Have any that I missed? Leave them in the comments!

NYC Food Diary

What’s the most important thing when you’re traveling? No, not seeing new things. No, not relaxing or shopping or wearing cute clothes. It’s EATING! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Or at least it is for me haha. This is why I’ve decided to start my NYC Girls Trip series with some of the AMAZING food we ate.

In no particular order, here we go!

Shake Shack: As a strong proponent of In-n-out (a must when you grew up in SoCal), I was equal measures intrigued and suspicious of this place. I am going to preface this by saying that I will not be choosing a favorite because I feel like these are very different burgers and fries and it would depend on your personal preference. With all the being said, this was an amazing meal!! I went for a classic Shack burger, fries, and a vanilla shake and it definitely lived up to the hype. 10/10 would eat again.

Parm: This was a pretty casual Italian eatery with a love for sandwiches. I ate a meatball parm hero and it spoke to my Italian heritage so loud I think it was audible to everyone in the restaurant. In all seriousness, this was a darn good sandwich. I had to stop myself from finishing it because if I had finished I would have had to be rolled out of the restaurant. In case sandwiches aren’t your thing, our waitress recommended the baked ziti which sounded delicious as well.

Le Moulin a Cafe: Brunch is a must while on vacation with your best friends. On our last morning in New York we strolled to this little French cafe for brunch and it was almost as if we had strolled right in to Paris. I had a steak and eggs breakfast and it was amazing. It took a lot of self restraint not to lick the plate. Two of my friends ordered French toast and I was equally impressed by this dish as well (stolen bites taste better and I won’t be swayed!).

I know what you’re thinking, “Kim, you didn’t talk about bagels or pizza!”. You’re right I didn’t and it was purposeful. I strongly believe that pretty much any bagel or slice you eat in NYC will be delicious (I know mine was) and that’s why I didn’t want to talk about those places because they are so quintessentially NYC that you know their going to be good no matter where you go.

Tell me places that you loved when you were in NYC in the comments!

Bye, lovelies!

Savannah Daycation

Last weekend, the boyfriend and I went on a little daycation to Savannah and it was wonderful. We had a sinful dinner at Moon River Brewing Company where we shared a flight (which are definitely enough for two people) and had burgers in the beer garden because the weather was so beautiful. It definitely didn’t feel too touristy which are the kinds of places that I look for when I travel. I was in love with the atmosphere and the fact that there were a dozen dogs scattered around the garden. Savannah seemed like such a dog-friendly town, I was swooning all over the city ๐Ÿ˜. Afterwards, we did a little rooftop bar hopping on the river to again take advantage of the pleasant spring night.

The next morning we were treated to breakfast burritos and conversation at our Airbnb before we truly started our day with donuts from Rise Biscuits & Donuts ๐Ÿฉ. They were delicious and classic and gave us the perfect little sugar high for a walking tour of downtown with Joe from Free Savannah Walking Tours. We began at Johnson square and visited 5 more learning about the history and lore surrounding the city. I’m a sucker for activities where I feel like I’m learning something and getting a little exercise in the process! We ended in Forsyth Park at the beautiful iconic fountain at noon with tired feet and a plan to see some of the city’s historic homes.

After walking for two hours, we were ready to sit in a temperature controlled restaurant and cool off with an adult beverage. We chose Sorry Charlie’s where we rested our feet and I indulged in some of their house oysters and a mimosa while we made plans for our next move.

The boyfriend is obsessed with anything fish related and has recently gotten into fly fishing so we went to do a little shopping at Rivers & Glen that specializes in fly fishing accoutrements. I thought that I would be bored out of my mind but I thought it was adorable to see his eyes light up with child-like wonder at all the flies and rods and fishing gear. It didn’t hurt that I also found an adorable pair of Patagonia fishing shorts that I had to have. (I immediately wore them the next day on our boat trip back home ๐Ÿ˜Š)

From our little shopping trip we went to have a late lunch at Treylor Park. This restaurant had a cute glamping feel on the back deck, like you had just dropped by Grandpa & Gramma’s fancy camper and were having dinner with cousins on picnic tables. I was feeling healthy with a seared ahi salad with wasabi dressing while the boyfriend had a 77 Monte Carlo sandwich. He drank a delicious Georgia Mule and I drank a Scofflaw Basement IPA (one of my favorite right now).

After our lunch. we walked along the river spotting boats and multi million dollar yachts and made us wish for trust funds ๐Ÿ›ณ. We then made our way to the truck to head home for an early bedtime. As this was the boyfriend and my first trip together, I think it went very well. I had a wonderful time and I can’t wait to for our next trip!

Bye lovelies!
