This is JT’s “endearing” term for the little detox that I’ve been doing since January 7th and will continue through the end of the month.
Here are the basics:
- No alcohol
- Mostly healthy eating/count calories when possible (small treats when I get a severe craving -> mini drumstick ✌🏼)
- Workout 3-5 times per week
- At least 5k steps a day
- Train to be able to run a 5k
Potentially find a 5k race to run
I was sick a lot in November/December so I slacked off on healthy eating and exercising (and who doesn’t indulge over the holidays?!). Because of all that I was/am carrying some extra weight that was not unhealthy but wasn’t necessarily making me happy. Hence this little jumpstart.
I know that not all of these things aren’t sustainable long term; life gets in the way and sometimes working out isn’t the most important thing in the world. Just like how these extra ten pounds and the way my body looks isn’t the most important thing in the world. Having the opportunity to worry about my waist line and not where I’ll get my next meal is a privilege and ultimately how much I weigh doesn’t change anything.
I will now get off my self love soap box but it is something that we should all internalize!

Holidays are a highly-photographed time of year. And because of this we’d all like to have the best skin possible to be memorialized in our mom’s photo albums (and instagram of course). So, I’m talking about a few of my fave drug store face masks that could take your instagrams and family photos to the next level!
First up, is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask for acne. I chose this one because I’ve been struggling with some breakouts recently. This one applied fairly well and I felt it start to tingle right away. Over the ten minutes the areas where I applied the mask thinner hardened slightly. I will say that it was a little difficult to wash off my face because it was so thick but once I did my skin felt dewy and fresh!
Here’s so smaller pores because that’s what society says we need to be pretty!!
Bioré Charcoal Pore Strips have a controversial rap. Do they pull out black head? Do they just pull off dead skin and hair? I may never know the real truth but what I do know is that my nose is my biggest problem area and I like how it makes it and me feel. And that, to me, is half the battle when it comes to confidence.
These are my current favorite under eye masks. I think they noticeably decreased the darkness under my eyes that really bothers me. I definitely try to put them as close to my eye as possible because that’s where the darkness begins. This makes it difficult to move my eyes too much but it doesn’t really irritate them which I like.
Next up was a first for me! This was my first peel off mask and I definitely didn’t do it right lol. If you use this one, (which smelled amazing and I actually really liked) LEAVE IT ALONE for at least 25-35 mins. I only left mine sit for 15 ish mins and it was not enough! You have to let it dry completely to have the “peel off” effect. All of that aside, I really liked this one and felt like it definitely had a brightening effect on my skin!
I have always HATED being alone. For the first two and a half years of my life I screamed in the car because I had to sit in the back seat by myself (I think my mother nearly killed me haha). However, being alone with yourself and your thoughts has great mental benefits as an adult especially towards “finding yourself”. As our 20s are supposed to be our time to “find ourselves”, I’ve been working hard in my mid-twenties to do just that.
Part of my strategy to do this has been to take myself out on dates. I’m not going to say that I’m super good at this concept but I’ve enjoyed it so far. Going out with just myself gives me time to think about what really makes me happy since I am a huge people-pleaser. It also gives me time to think about my future and what I want my life to look like and how I think I can make that happen on a personal and professional level. If I were the journaling-type this is probably a time where I would journal too. All of this happens while I am at dinner when you would in theory being getting to know the person across the table from you. However, I also make sure that I plan a fun activity too. I usually lean towards going to movies that I can’t convince my friends or boyfriend to go to with me but I have also done shopping or laying on the beach with a book.
Another thing that I always make sure to do is to dress up or at least look put together. My thought process on this is two-fold: A) I enjoy getting dressed up and it makes me happy and B) you’d dress up for a normal date for a random person so why wouldn’t you do the same for yourself?!
I’ve found that this has been super helpful in my “finding myself” stage of life but I’d love to hear any suggestions you gals may have!
